Your Hosts - Helen & Colin
Peggy’s Retreat is owned and operated by Helen and Colin Davies, and has taken over 3 years of renovations and extending to set up.
Helen is a well known local personality, having been a hairdresser in Wilmington, Orroroo and Peterborough over the last 40 years. Helen was born on a sheep station between Yunta and Carrieton in the north of South Australia and did much of her schooling by correspondence and on the School of the Air, before travelling to Melbourne at the tender age of 15 to train as a hairdresser. Helen has had many years experience running a fully hosted bed and breakfast at Hammond (between Quorn and Orroroo) and the popular Molly Browns Kitchen which was good enough to be listed in the Lonely Planet guide of Australia.
Colin was born in London, England and immigrated to Australia as a child with his parents. Colin studied economics and accounting at university and currently works as Finance & Administration Manager for The Flinders Ranges Council. Colin came to the area originally 5 years ago for a temporary job, but loved the area so much that he stayed and consequently met and married Helen in Peterborough where he worked at the time. Colin has hospitality experience in English pubs.
Helen and Colin are actively involved in the local community, both being members of Rotary International and volunteer ambulance officers at Jamestown. Colin is also a Justice of the Peace and sits on various committees.
